Doctor Mike is great. I remember about 3-4 years ago I took my mother to the emergency room. The doctor came in the room and he was exceptionally attentive and personable and really put us at ease. Everything turned out fine with my mom, the doctor made a couple lighthearted jokes and we all laughed and then we went home. I remember thinking I wish every doctor was like that. A couple years later I'm watching youtube and I'm thinking, "Why does this Doctor Mike guy look so familiar?" Then it hit me.
This is actually really heartwarming. It’s nice to hear he’s the real deal.

total darkness? if i turn every light off in my room i FREAK OUT and will actually accidentally hurt myself in a panic when i rush to turn a light on. i NEED sound as well. my usual playlist with random songs. so if the power goes out i will probably fall out of my bed in a haste to get in the hall where a flood light is, and i have a loft bed like, 5 feet above my floor.

I absolutely need a humidifier I need my room because if I don’t blood flow come dripping out of my nose the story of my life so pretty much Every time I’m at my dads I get a bloody nose I don’t wake up I wake up it’s already stopped blood all over my sheets or I just sleep through the night and I get and I wake up and it’s even worse
Moral of the story : Leave your air conditioner running for at least 2 hrs with no one in the room

Everytime my mom brushes her teeth at night it wakes me up 🥲 she has a whole routine it takes so long... ive told her once so maybe she could pay attention to being more quiet but it didnt help.. what do i do.. shes so sensitive i dont want to hurt her feelings lol

One thing I do because my mom keeps the house really hot at night so I can’t change the temperature lower, is since my bed is against the wall I put my big blanket against the wall and when I come back to it at night it is nice and cold.

I think it’s important to note that depending on what humidifier you have, you have to use distilled water. I didn’t know that until much later. Regular tap water in some types of humidifiers can send harmful particles into the air. His humidifier looks really advanced. But the issue is with ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers, and not the warm steam mist type.

I’m watching this in bed. On my phone. Whoops. I can’t sleep without my phone because I need noise to fall asleep. I have misophonia and sleep with earplugs and headphones either playing music or FIstream videos. It’s been a while now and either it’s more quite in the flat/apartment or I’m getting better but I would literally wake up annoyed at 6 am because a dog in the apartment above me is barking. I’d rather have a bit of FIstream or music from my phone before and in bed which makes me fall asleep later but it will make me sleep better and without waking up at every noise. And more importantly: not waking up annoyed early in the morning at a noise because then the problem will be a lack of sleep AND starting a day frustrated, annoyed and hopeless. There’s nothing worse than a terrible start.

Hey, Dr. Mike, I wanted to ask you about the "no phones" rule. You seem to focus on FOMO and the anxiety caused by social media in general as big reasons to avoid your screens before sleeping, but I was wondering about the effect that my phone might have on my own personal sleeping. I struggle a lot with falling asleep at night, and always have for as long as I can remember. Recently, I've found that one of the things that can help are playing those mindless, highly-repetitive games on my phone where all I'm doing is repeating the same few actions over and over. The mindlessness and repetitiveness help to lull me off to sleep and gets me to sleep faster than just staring at the ceiling, but after watching your videos, I'm concerned that it might be damaging my sleep quality more than trying to fall asleep without a screen. Any insight? Thanks.

Dr Mike, I generally struggle to fall asleep. Even when I switch off unnatural light, put my cellphone aside etc., I still struggle. What other natural methods could I utilise that would increase my melatonin level?
Every single night I write down good things that happened that day and put them in a jar, as well as sad things and I always find that there aren't as many sad things then the happy things and it really lowers my anxiety. I call it my happy jar

Terrible toothbrushing technique. You’re ‘scrubbing’ with that nice electric toothbrush. Move deliberately from tooth to tooth, letting the brush do the work. OTOH - Bear is a great dog. Of course, he’s a Newfoundland, so he sort of had to be. I’ve lived with two of them, and six Bernese Mountain Dogs, I consider my self qualified. 😁

The humidifier is a great addition to your routines. My 6th grade science teacher had one and almost everyone in any of his classes didn’t get sick that winter and helped a lot with those of us with springtime allergies.

Ugh man, if only I could control the temperature in my apartment. We don’t have our own thermostats. I’m a warm bodied girl and between an 80 degree apartment and a 6 ft 4 snuggly furnace sleeping next to me I often have a hard time falling asleep. I have to open the window and it’s winter LOL. It doesn’t help that I have generalized anxiety disorder. These are really great tips! Thanks!
