Doctor Takes Personality Test | Are They Even Accurate?

824 901 Näkymät

Residents in my Discord have been asking me what my Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator is, and I didn’t know! So I sat down to take a personality test inspired by the MBTI philosophy and was… surprised by my results. There are several scientific problems with these tests which should prevent them from ever being used in making a major life decision. Some companies actually use these things to hire employees and structure their business, and that’s not something I can endorse. That being said, these tests are very fun and can be entertaining to take with friends or even provide you with some introspection if done with a professional. Let me know what personality type you are down in the comments!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

  • Ummmm... I'm an INTP and I completely agreed on my results. It clearly represents me and my personality type. When I began to test myself using this personality type indicator, I don't believe it but when I get into it further, I understand myself better. Idk, well, it's just me and I tested myself multiple times in different MBTI sources and it resulted INTP.

  • My perspective on this is that it's a template to your personality type at the moment and no it's not 100% accurate I understand that but it is definitely worth keeping in mind. My personality type never changed and everything they said pretty much sums of my life if you disagree with that hey you don't need to follow the Myer Briggs test at all just go by what you're doing if you're happy but me I'm a lost cause at the moment and I wanted to discover myself a bit more and I felt like I accomplished that...

  • Hi Dr Mike. That is why psychologists and other certified professionals should set up batteries and interpret them. They can be useful, with collateral information, in the right hands and can actually help people if done well. I think pointing out the challenges is awesome and important. But also being mindful that people may interpret what you said as they should not get help if they are struggling with career decisions etc because some psychologists and other certified professionals may use some of these assessments and do an amazing job.

  • Hi Mike you might have felt better about ENFJ. The 2nd dimension is 51%, its almost like your "S" is actually an "N". All other letters seems pretty balanced, it shows to me (psychologist) that your personality is quiet flexible and is comfortable using different kind of behavioural dinamics to adapt to or overcome certain situations. And as far as I have observed cases of this test, it is absolutely not surprising to have different result in different life stages: people get different results when they are in a life crisis, or coming from work with that work mind set, or in a friendly cirlce being their comfy persona. What I believe is usefull is to see how the personality is morphing through life, like a kaleidoscope: it might show a different picture with every move, but it should be observed as a whole, including the dinamics of change, as an important part of it.

  • These tests aren’t your personality, but how your brain is wired, or how it works. That is wrong. It think that you are an ESTP or ENTP.

    Skye MaloneSkye Malone19 päivää sitten
  • The reason your results were off so much is because your type consul personality is very in the middle. So, only some things will apply. Those results are mostly true for people who are around 90% on all the spectrums. Secondly, you may not related to the weaknesses of your type because of what I previously mentioned, and because you are likely a healthier version of your type. After all, your job likely makes you more flexible and innovative, which explains why your expected weaknesses are not present. Lastly, since this is a common personality type there is probably a lot more variability among people who are consuls. Also, some of those descriptions had truth to them. You may not have been a popular quarterback in high school, but you are popular in adulthood. So, the test was definitely right about you being a popular person.

You need to do a combo video with a psychologist who could explain the results to you, come on Dr Mike! These are helpful for people to make adjustments when their personality type is affecting how they deal with situations in life. And so helpful to know how your partner takes in info, processes it, comes to decisions and implements those decisions, etc (edited for 2 typos)

  • While I've always gotten INTP some may not always get the same result which is a kind of flaw all personality tests run into as they are generally too vague with obsured questions & do not understand that the brain learns to adapt and change. For Myers Briggs which has 16 personality types ( INTJ, INTP, ENTJ, ENTP, INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, ENFP, ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTJ, ESFJ, ISTP, ISFP, ESTP, ESFP), it is not a straight personality test but more about how ur brain takes in information & outputs information. There is 2 sides of the same coin & everything works on a scale. This is why 2 people with the same personality don't act the same and why just because someone doesn't have an F in their personality type doesn't mean they don't feel. For example I'm an INTP (Introvert, Intuition, Thinking, & Perception) & my opposite is ESFJ (Extrovert, Sensory, Feeling, Judging). Each of these values are on a scale and our "sub personality" helps us understand our differences. So while one INTP may be able to Sense an emotional problem they may lack the ability to handle it but an INTP who has a higher understanding of Feeling may not be able to Sense a problem but will know how to solve the problem on a emotional level. The types are kind of based on science rather than made up terms. Introverts and Extroverts do exist but on scale. A person may move closer to what is known as an Ambivert but still stay on the Introvert or Extrovert side due to them becoming energized or drained from socializing & alone time. The problem is that Myers Briggs like all personality tests doesn't present this kind of information to those who take the test & only presents the information & results in a simplistic style that generally leaves people confused & wondering how they got the type they did. Most people are aware that there are not just 16 personality types, the brain is more complicated than that & just because someone is of X type doesn't mean they only have to go into jobs that the type gives or that they can't change over time (aka adapt into a different person). Merely that those are the types of job u may do well in if ur of X type. The Flaw with Myers Briggs is that it is too generalized. It's trying to hit a radius around a kind of type of brain a person naturally has from their genetics & personal experience. The results have some kind scientific understanding to it as we can all think of that person who generally used logic over emotions to solve problems or the person who generally "jumped before looking." However, this is the fundamental flaw of personality quizzes. Even when they base their types on science it is too simplified and doesn't take into account the complexity of the brain. Overall take personality tests w/ a grain of salt even when they have the correct terminology to back them up

  • While we don't just fit into 4 letters, MBTI is often misunderstood: it's not scientific, it's a tool actually. Simply a tool that puts words on basic human cognition to explain different ways of perceiving the world. These are simply rough guidelines expressed with cognitive functions language, a simplification made to make the understanding of different thought processes more universal and more approachable to everyone. It's a matter of fact that some people prioritize subjective logic to make their decisions while some other people prioritize group values. Or that some people are more pragmatic while others are more imaginative. It doesn't mean they're only that, we all evolve as individuals. But I think there's a real misunderstanding of what this system is, it's not science, it's a tool basically putting words on different thought processes that one can deduce based on some observation of how human beings can differ and work. These are "archetypes" that are actually observable in the real world. And let me tell you, even though your test result for sure isn't accurate (personality TESTS are flawed because it's influenced by too many bias), in terms of cognitive functions you're the archetype of the ENFP type. Dominant Ne/ extroverted intuition (ENFPs' strongest valued/conscious function): Interpreting situations and relationships in terms of their interconnected meanings and values. “Reading behind the lines”, and being able to pick up on obscured meanings, focus more on what isn’t said as opposed to what is said, and spot patterns that aren’t immediately obvious. Auxiliary Fi/ introverted feeling: Have strong values, and attach strong importance to these internalized sets of personal rules. Strong attachment to the idea of “truth”, and will often evaluate things based on their connection to “truth”. Constantly seeking to clarify, test, and validate their values, and evaluating whether or not tasks are compatible with their values. Does it “feel right”? Tertiary Te/ extroverted thinking (pretty balanced with the auxiliary being a tertiary function): Tendency to segment and organize with the goal of improving efficiency. And then, inferior Si/ introverted sensing (ENFPs' weakest valued/conscious function): Reliance on past experiences and memories, and will often tend to make astute connections between the past and present. With this comes a wealth of accumulated data to draw from in relation to these past experiences; for example, when conversing with an individual, recalling the last interaction with an individual of similar demeanor, and using this experiential insight to their advantage. So it's all a matter of gauging prioritization between different obvious and easily detectable human cognitive processes. That's all, it doesn't describe all the intricacies of a human brain for sure, but it's useful to try to understand how other people think and their perspectives because while it's one of your talents (because of Ne and Fi), not everyone has the same EQ as you and it's therefore very useful for some people who have difficulties understanding other people. While Myers-Briggs didn't sell this system very well, Jung actually very accurately put the finger on things that are really experienced by people, even though it's not the complete spectrum.
