How I Got Into Residency | My Medical Journey | Doctor Mike

1 321 673 Näkymät

Hi guys! First of all, I want to apologize for my congestion and nasally voice in this video. I was battling a mean cold and didn't want to miss this weeks video.
I read your comments on the "How I got into Med School" video, and you all seemed to want to hear about the residency and social media journey as well. So here we go. In this weeks video, I wanted to have an intimate conversation about my path of getting into residency, my experiences in residency, as well as how my social media route began.Being a doctor and the residency match are both complex topics. This is a much longer video than usual, and I was debating if I should split it into two parts, but the stories seemed too intertwined to separate.
I will make shorter videos in the future about social media and residency success. I really just wanted to share with you my family medicine residency journey as I hope it may inspire you or at the very least entertain you. If you enjoy this video, please give it a like, and if you want more intimate conversation style videos like this one, please let me know in the comments below! Stay happy and healthy!

  • This is insanely inspirational and just so real... also makes it all sound so easy yet it must be so hard to find that balance in your life. We don't really hear a lot about your past or personal life often, but when we do its usually with a purpose and some good reason, also remind us that you are an actual human with another life away from yt which people tend to forget when we are just looking at another face on a screen. Thank you so much for everything you do and all the best!!

  • My brother is a Doctor and I often met his co-residents friends. It was always intersting to listen to their stories. The hospital where they did their residency was close to a nice beach. They used yo go to the beach every chance they got. So I think that made their 2 years a lot more easy after a stressful week.

  • I’m a little late to this party but I wanted to mention an unexpected but helpful tip from this video. It was one of the interview tactics used by a hospital. They had you answer their questions from the perspective of someone who knows you well. As soon as I heard it, I said, Ah ha! Now I know what I can do to help myself in the interview process! And then was surprised to hear you disliked this tactic! I have a difficult time talking about myself in interviews and tend to come across not confident or somewhat apathetic about the job, just because I’m nervous. When I heard this tactic, I really thought having that mindset in interviews (thinking about myself from someone else’s perspective) would really help my answers come across more confident and help an employer see why they should hire me. So.... thanks for mentioning that!

This video of yours really kept all my attentions there whole time. As a musician who has very limit idea of doctor’s mindset lol I learned so much about you as a doctor and what it could be like after you became so famous, also how you deal with the overwhelming gig invitations and how you use the opportunities rightly. I loved that you being so opened up with all these informations with us, and being such a great human being with not just a pretty face, but also a good heart, and a smart brain of course! All the best to your careers!! Definitely subscribed!

  • My battle with Breast cancer started 4 years ago, after so many Chemo, Radiation and other natural therapy treatment that I took just to cure my Breast cancer, it all did not work for my condition. I have been treating this disease for the past 2 years, but today I'm here telling the world about my final victory over Breast cancer with the help of cannabis oil medication. This is a breakthrough in my family with so much Joy in our life today, I was told about Dr Odia, when I heard about his good works from my friend I requested for the contact information of this man, after some days passed as I was always praying to God for mercy, I said to myself that God could use this man to heal me totally after giving myself this thought I immediately contacted Dr Odia, I do really appreciate all the help and contribution from every member of my family for all they did for me. And if you have any kind of cancer diseases, there is no need to waste money on Chemo or Radiation, go get herbals from ( His Herbal Herbs totally kill cancer cells..

  • I thought my life had nothing to offer anymore because life became meaningless to me because I had HERPES virus, the symptoms became very severe & conspicuous and it made my family abandoned me so they won't get infected. I gave up everything, my hope, dreams, vision, and job because the doctor told me there's no cure. I consumed so many drugs but they never cured me they only suppressed the symptoms inside me making it worse. I began doing some research online on how to get a permanent when I came across testimonies of some people on how Dr. Aloha cured them of HERPES virus, I never believed at first and thought it was a joke but later decided to contact him through his Email: when I messaged him we communicated and he prepared the Herbal Cure and sent it to my address which I provided and He told me to go for a test after two weeks. Within just 7 days of using the medication, the symptoms disappeared, and when I went for a test Lo and behold I tested NEGATIVE by the same Doctor Who tested me earlier. Thank you so much Dr. Aloha I forever owe my life to you and I'll keep on telling the world about you. If you are going through the same situation worry no more and contact Dr. Aloha via Email: or Call/Text: +1(202) 871-3222

  • Just wanted to say I like your point of view being a doctor. Knowing that you can always be educated and to stay professional to the best of your ability is amazing. I've had so many bad experiences with nurses and doctors I decided to be the nurse that I needed so no one should go through what I have been through. I want someone to feel like they felt cared for or their loved one. Family member of mine works for a medical transport company and tells me that doctors and nurses (mostly nurses) act angry towards him or seems really aggressive or aggravated. Even though we are human and can have things going on I believe we should work on a team and help put patients to the best of our ability. I'm hoping that once I become a nurse and start training them and they start training other people, that there is more and more understand nurses and having nurses view team and patients differently

With Clue instead of a murder mystery it could be a medical diagnosis mystery. With Operation, you could possibly promote it to inspire you aspiring surgeons. Or, you could just do a video with you and your nephews playing the game.

  • Okay that really bugs me when ppl don't understand the difference : Pride vs Arrogance That "cowboy doc" is arrogant not "too prideful" In layman's terms Pride has "substance", Arrogance is "hollow" It's by literal def : Pride : (1) a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. (2) confidence and self-respect as expressed by members of a group, typically one that has been socially marginalized, on the basis of their shared identity, culture, and experience. - Pride is an emotional state deriving positive affect from the perceived value of a person or thing with which the subject has an intimate connection. It may be inwardly or outwardly directed. Arrogance : having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities. So if one is "prideful" at the expense of "reality" then they are not prideful, they are arrogant. You want your doc (or someone "above" or serving you) to be prideful, you DO NOT want them to be arrogant. Now a person can have a lot of pride about having intelligence but also be arrogant about their intelligence. There’s a difference and it has to do with what intelligence is in regards to pride and arrogance. The former is honoring what you do already know. The later is being willfully ignorant about what you may not or don’t already know.
