  • Pam, I am so sorry that a special ed teacher tried to limit you. It is my job to remove the limits I can and find ways to circumvent those I can’t remove. I must want more and expect more my students than they (and sometimes their parents) expect for themselves. My students with disabilities don’t “want” to be whole. They are whole! Their wholeness is just different. Kinda like a Duncan’s donut v a Krispy Kreme....

  • I actually am an eleven year old that started a Tourette’s support group in my neighbourhood for all of the bullied kids. One time, we were meditating in the park to get them used to being around people and Zach, a guy in the group, barked and said ‘I spilled the tea’(that’s a type of tic,) and one guy started filming him and laughing. I personally walked up to him and threw his phone in the lake and punched him in the face. He is like, ten years older than me but that behaviour was unacceptable! 🖤

  • "I wink, uncontrollably, and men get VERY confused. Like this week, literally this week, I winked at a guy once, and he was confused, and then OCD made me wink at him 27 more times, and I LITERALLY thought he was going to implode." I can picture this, perfectly. 😂 😂 🤣

  • Love this line of chat - and the roasting! An idea for a chat is people who struggle to express themselves. I work with both native and non-native speakers who at first look you would think are super smart and articulate, but they feel they aren't able to put into words their experience. When I went to authorities to talk about training their staff to serve a particular group they said 'well, they are not complaining' (!!!!!!) I think a lot of us feel like we are not being heard and what I loved about Pamela, and people like her, is that they give language to an experience for those of us who are struggling to do so. How is communication taught and thought of in the medical world?

  • This video is one of the best examples of speaking about disabilities in a way that highlights the issues and makes it accessable at the same time to people who have never experienced this. Love both of you and Pam thank you so much for speaking so open about your experiences and feelings! You really educate a lot of people!

  • I have been told a lot of times that I inspire them because I don't let my disability stop me. People are inspired by seeing others thrive despite their disabilities I take it as the best compliment. If I can help or inspire someone going through a difficulty it makes me very happy. I love this video and sense of humor is what has gotten me through so much.

  • Absolutely made me ball into tears. I lost my hearing at 16 from a genetic disorder. I read lips very well but was struggling in school and got sent to Special Ed. I had asked why my classes were changed and the principle said to my face people like you don't have a chance in life except for a sign language teacher. Come to find out he was dead wrong I am a deaf violin teacher. I teach children who don't have a chance in life and I give them that chance with free lessons. I am applying for the LA Philharmonic next year or when the pandemic is over and nothing will stop me until the day I die. But right now I love being a violin teacher. I love my student like they are my own children. We are like a family. Like her I love bringing humor into my violin class because thats how you get children to focus. I couldn't do anything else in my life. I can't see it. Thank you for being such a huge inspiration.

  • Can relate to some parts. I had selective mutism. Public high school staff were extremely ignorant and treated me like I had an intellectual disability because I couldn't speak due to severe anxiety. (not that people with ANY disabilities should be treated as lesser) Had a horrific time there to put it mildly. Ended up going halfway across the US to get treated for my disorder. Afterwards, I ended up in a small boarding school paid for by the public school district after my mom sued them. Still live in the city I went to boarding school in and am trying my best in college. I grew up with the message that I was a burden to others and it's so hard not to internalize that, even today. I just think it's really cool to see someone who was "that weird kid" growing up seem so confident and successful. I hope I can find that confidence one day too.

  • You are wonderful! I appreciate the story of how you embrace yourself and the humor. I have an indivisible disability, EDS and a gaggle of wonderful other issues that joined the medical conditions list party. Humor is my coping mechanism a majority of the time, and I've learned it can make ppl uncomfortable because they don't know how to respond to what I talk about when they ask and then my humor about it all. I have no control over what my defective Gumby body does and how it presents minute to minute. So many ppl, and medical professionals, do not know about EDS. I cope with humor, at times gallows humor. But, it's me and my disability so sorry not sorry ? 🤷

  • I love her sense of humor. She seems like a blast to be around. I agree with a lot of what she said, people often don't realize how patronizing it is to treat differently-abled persons like children instead of as an individual. It's not constructive to pity others solely to make yourself feel better. Great video guys 💖

  • Wow! Pamela Rae Schuller is hilarious!! I loved this video! I'm definitely going to check out her sites. My son had Tourette's (still does, I guess) and had some challenges. He was able to be "mainstreamed" in school, but there were obstacles to overcome. Now that he's almost 30, he has better control over his tics and foibles. I can relate to Pamela's stories about trying to make her way into her community. Thank you, Mike, so much for sharing this wonderful funny lady with us.

  • I truly loved this video. As much as I don't believe in disability-embracing (it causes a lot of people to block attempts by people in the medical field to find a cure, and there are people much more severely afflicted who have no reason to embrace it), I could definitely relate to everything that was said in one way or another. And we should definitely be able to laugh at our disabilities if we feel like it! If we can't laugh at things, then what defense do we have left against life? Plus, Tourette's can be pretty damned funny, just like things like ADHD can lead to funny situations. And it also never ceases to amaze me how many people who don't belong in education, end up choosing a career path that involves it!! Thank you for making a change, just by taking part in the making of this video.

  • I'm also disabled, and my favorite thing any disabled person has ever said to really explain it is "when you become disabled - and I say when, not if because your likelihood of becoming disabled goes up with every year - so /when/ you become disabled--" And that's usually all you have to say for all that blood to drain out of a good abled person's face. Disability isn't something like race or gender issues or sexuality. It's not about putting yourself in their shoes. It's about knowing that you can become or you can be disabled on a dime. So what happens when it happens to you :)

  • 1. It's cool to live in a world of differences. Having a disability is a difference and it's cool to talk about it. 2. Hard issues can become an opportunity to talk about it, not only to cancel and to stop the conversation. THESE are examples of things that Pamela said that inpires me. Her world view is so profound.

I work in a drive thru and get the occasional questioning and mostly people are sweet but there was this one time that someone had said "you should really use two hands" and I felt really bad. But I'm happy and work around my disability. I often say that I could either sit in bed all day and do nothing in my life or I could live the life I want to live.
