The Truth About Allergies and Food Sensitivity Tests

818 016 Näkymät

Many of my patients come to see me as a result of their allergy symptoms. But at times, they also confuse intolerances with allergies. I decided to sit down with a leading pediatric allergist Dr. Dave Stukus and chat all things allergy. Oh and I thought I'd state it clearly right here: Food sensitivities tests don't work and are a full-on SCAM! Always consult your doctor before testing yourself or your family members for allergies!

  • I have several, uh, I don't know what to call them other than food sensitivities. When I eat certain foods, I'll use yogurt as my example, I get horrible intestinal pain and headaches and cold sweats. The severity of these symptoms changes with what I eat Some I seem to be much more sensitive to than others, for example, garlic. The smell of garlic gives me a bad headache and eating it has similar symptoms to what happens when I eat yogurt. There are many of these foods and because I have to avoid all these food my life has drastically changed

  • How do we go about getting a legitimate allergy test? When I was younger, anytime I ate or drank anything that had Kiwi - I would have a itching sensation on my tongue, cheek, and inside of my mouth. Recently on December 2020, I now get an itching sensation within the first 5-10 seconds now, which is followed by a numbing sensation. The symptoms definitely changed over the years 😅 so far I haven't had the need to go to a hospital. But now I'm curious.

  • I went to the doctors a few years ago they said I was allergic to all foods except chicken and a little of other stuff, I don't know if they was just joking or not..I still eat the food that I'm allergic to this day, it doesn't really do nothing though it only makes me itchy but that's not a problem for me because I've had eczema all of my life, and I'm pretty use to the feeling, I'm also allergic to watermelon, coconut and blueberries, I don't eat those because they make my tongue, throat and lips itch a little to much so I just figure, I just don't eat the stuff that does that, and the thing is I don't really like chicken unless it doesn't have any bones in it, I'm just afraid I might choke on one which is a reason I don't like it.

Then, Someone told him about Institute of Applied Food Allergy (IAFA). He went to Institute of Applied Food Allergy (IAFA) & got his treatment started. Now he is fine. If you have this type of problem or any other type of health problem. You should go to Institute of Applied Food Allergy (IAFA).

  • My celiac disease basically where found out because my nail fungus when I was around 16-17. The doctor was almost more interested with my acne, so after the treatment for the fungus I got medication against that. The acne medication needed blood samples before and regularly during it. Those indicated that it could be celiac disease. After a gastroscopy it was confirmed. My main symptoms when ingesting gluten are that I can be really tired, although I can get some nausea and diarrhea. One time shortly before bedtime I felt tired because of it and i slept for around 22-23 hours, woke up for a couple of hours and then went to bed for the night.

Along with a few allergies and intolerances. It sucks. I'm a little confused about milk, I wheeze after eating it, sometimes I have severe gastrointestinal issues or both. I can't tell if its just an intolerance or an allergy.

  • I said nightshade sensitivity for a while because it's really scary to accept that it's an allergy... I'm using the term "allergy" now, because I react similarly to someone with celiac. I wonder if the term "sensitivity" is just used because people can't decide if it's an intolerance or allergy Edit: I didn't take a sensitivity test, I did elimination. Very quickly, I noticed everything got better (heh that's is ambiguous innit.) . Since the elim, I've rashed up a few times after touching tomatoes or potatoes (four times so far. I'll track and test more.) I also get really bad stomach issues and joint pain (i already have a joint condition, not that it showed up outta nowhere) every time i get nightshades. even did an accidental double blind test: the packaging of a food did *not* say paprika, stomach got very upset and i was like "damnit, maybe this isn't it then..." we looked it up online, turns out, it had unlisted paprika! I also need to test different nightshades (some people react to tomatoes and not potatoes. I've presumably reacted to both, but still need to test because it couldve been coincidence (when i tell my bf, tho, he says "could it really tho?" or sumthn like that, haha)) i also need to test eggs, i dont think they're a problem. i stopped eating eggs before because i thought that mightve been causing my stomach issues. now that im paying attention to nightshades, i realized i always put shredded cheese (potato starch) and paprika on my eggs. we'll see, it could be both nightshades and eggs, but i kinda doubt it

I fell asleep on a bag of ice one time trying to get rid of the headache. I also had sensitivity to light. The worst part was the hallucinations where I would see say like a car or truck on the road that didn't even exist. It runs in the family as well. Passed down from my Dad's side of the family. Luckily for me I have grown out of it. I can still get the headaches but it is very rare now.

  • OK I’m confused if the IgG tests are only showing exposure...and he hates cottage cheese and never eats it then why would he test sensitive to it? Right before that he said that you might have a lot of antibodies to something because you eat it often and that doesn’t mean you’re sensitive to it. If that’s all this test shows then why would he have a lot of the antibodies if he never eats it?

  • I used to have a blueberry allergy, but it’s gotten better. I think it was caused by the fact that my Grandma would always give me blueberries. I stopped eating them for a long time, but started again later in like 2nd grade. I started to have stomach problems and other mild symptoms so I stopped again. This was probably because I would eat blueberry waffles EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. And now I’m more cautious, because I don’t want to feel bad, but I am still able to eat blueberries every once in a while.

  • Fun fact about Celiac testing is that most people get their allergy panel results well before they have a diagnostic endoscopy scheduled. Since wheat/gluten will show up on that panel, many people go gluten-free before their endoscopy. But you are required to eat gluten leading up to the endoscopy in order to have an accurate diagnosis. Realistically, people whose symptoms align with Celiac are unlikely to comply with that requirement because of how debilitating their symptoms are, so you have a huge potential for misdiagnosis as NCGI. This is what happened to me, and given my symptoms were verifiably affecting my brain, joints, and causing multiple deficiencies, my doctor believes I have Celiac despite my endo results being "on the cusp". So it's not just an issue of defining terms, but it's also an issue of better testing protocols, or even just shorter wait periods between tests.

  • MRT test saved me from years of IBS pain, advised by a specialist doctor who normally uses diet to limit the reactions of epilepsy or even effects of down syndrome in children. Diet is such a complex yet crucial part of our health. I'd have never known the weird foods and spices I'm food sensitive to with isolating foods, I did the reaction calming diet and excluded the items that came out red and limited the yellow. Amazing. Saved my life, I can have a predictable day now. I'd recommend talking to some professors and experts in the field before you dismiss it publicly, amongst people who don't have the knowledge to be able to critically evaluate your videos. Most of UK doctors I met were "textbook" doctors and some didn't even know what it is, I'd be surprised to expect a publicity-driven doctor to know in what situations you can apply it successfully and the full extent to which it could be used for. Please investigate further and get some case studies out. Ironic for a "I Know All" TEDx Expect doctor not to research thoroughly. Understanding various blood results without using "ranges" is an art, in fact in many cases referring to ranges can be greatly misleading. Still love your spirit. Just do it responsibly, think about the impact it may have.

Of course I am very good about avoiding my allergies but how can you avoid the random bee that just insist on entering your apartment and attacking you, and how can you avoid the maintenance men that refuses to warn you that they are going to be painting with latex paint on both sides of you and you need to take your service dog out to potty???

  • I just came back from the ER for anaphylactic symptoms, because my tongue was swollen, I had hives all over my body, I had chest pain. Is a food sensitivity test a good course of action here? I have not changed diets, I don't use scents, I don't use scented anything, haven't changed soaps or anything like that.

  • My father had a progressive allergy to bees. He was stung and died from anaphylaxis cos he (a doctor) did not have an epi-pen handy and he was home alone. He was found in our driveway with his asthma inhaler in his hand. Have an epipen with you!

  • Hello everyone! I wanted to share that I have had success with Biomagnetism therapy. I suffered for years with food and respiratory allergies. After a month of treatment, I have been able to eat a all types of foods that I had become allergic to over these last years. I am happy to say that I am lucky to have found this treatment. Please have faith and try this out if you have food or respiratory allergies! Biomagnetism can help heal other illnesses, but I wanted to share my experience as it pertains to allergies. I have been living abroad the past 10 years and can say Biomagnetism saved my life, as I was having constant severe reactions. I am now able to eat pork, peanuts, walnuts, chicken, intake vitamins, fruits and vegetables. I was also previously having allergic reactions to bath/shower products, tobacco, vitamins-B complex group, Vitamin C and even fruits & vegetables caused these reactions. My goal is to spread awareness and help as much people who suffer from food or respiratory allergies find this solution, as I know the danger of what it is to have food allergies. I had been hospitalized various times and in other situations, was lucky to have medicine nearby. I am promoting no specific doctor nor clinic, as I just want to spread awareness that this alternative treatment exists and it works! My gratefulness is to God, who I feel would want me to share this information as it can help save lives. After the 1st session, it took 4 days until I started to see first results and start to eat small portions of foods that used to cause allergic reactions. After 2nd session, I started to eat higher portions and all types of foods. Today I can say that I am eating with confidence, no fear & no reactions! I have not taken nor needed any allergy medicine since I started with the Biomagnetism treatment. As well, I thank God, that I can eat every type of food and will not need to spend thousands in medicines nor hospital bills. Adios Big Pharma! This is my testimony and the results can be different for some, just have patience. God bless you all and I do hope this helps someone out there! We are one with God and we should be able to eat any type of food without having any allergic reaction! • Honestly.... if certain foods make you can weight rather quickly, or cause you discomfort and ruin your lifestyle its obvious to stop. Same goes for me lmao. I think going to the doctor for discomforts is unnecessary and a waste of money and time for you and the doc. Unless your experiencing extreme discomfort or pain then you should go.

  • I have been living with this 25 years - the biggest what if and brain trap is walking the line. The vague answers always say go out or stay in. I made my life genuinely worse several times because there are no easy answers. Yeah you can eat fish in control environment. Go have athletic activity in control environment for 6 to 12 months for asthma :D There is no plan that survives battlefield - your willpower will deplete and you gotta prepare for it.

  • I just wanted to mention that an expired EpiPen is better than no EpiPen! Please if you need to use one don't waste time reading the expiration date and just go for the injection. It might not be as effective but it is still better than nothing.
